However, It's important to note that there're specific methods for self-talk, including particular dosages and even specific wording, depending on the goal and the individual. If someone repeats positive affirmations for an extended period without seeing results, they may lose self-trust and faith in self-help methods. They might reach a point where they believe the world of personal development is a "bluff," based on their unsuccessful personal experiences due to unprofessional practices.
Additionally, using self-statements that don't align with one's current reality, such as "I am wealthy/healthy," can generate energetic and emotional resistance, potentially leading to counterproductive results.
Therefore, while positive affirmations like "I am wealthy, I am successful, I am abundant," which can be found on YouTube and the like, may be generally helpful in providing an initial boost of positive feelings, it's important to exercise caution when using them. Due to its importance, in my clinical work I spend serious time in teaching the specific formulations tailored for specific purposes, the appropriate dosage, and the proper verbal style to be used when performing self-talk. This approach ensures that self-talk isn't only harmless but also dramatically beneficial to the extent of altering one's neurological pathways.
'Subconscious belief' – what is it?
It's not a spiritual belief nor is it a positive sentiment one holds about something. Instead, it refers to an ingrained understanding at the most fundamental level of our existence.
Imagine a sane individual who understands that they're human, and not a cat or a horse, for instance. Their brain orchestrates all their bodily functions in a distinctly human manner, including their cognitive and emotional processes. Even if a hundred people were to tell them they're an octopus, they wouldn't doubt their identity because this belief is deeply embedded in their neurology.
Envision possessing a subconscious belief in your ability to defend yourself. The next time you encounter a physical threat, your demeanor would be so intimidating that the individual might never dare to threaten you again - even if you're physically smaller. The neurological pattern, transforms you into a lion in that moment, even with no techniques or experience in fighting.
Envision having a subconscious belief of being innately healthy. In such a scenario, this deep-rooted belief can end battles like the struggle to lose weight because you perceive yourself as a strong, healthy individual. Observe slim individuals who manage to maintain their weight despite consuming substantial amounts of food. Their belief is remarkably resilient, causing their body to operate differently. They embody the traits of a slim person, not solely due to physiological factors but fundamentally because they subconsciously perceive themselves as slim.
Imagine if someone were to approach you while you're in good health and with functioning legs, asserting, "You can't walk properly, you're really bad at it!" Your most likely response would be to laugh. This is because you hold a subconscious belief in your ability to walk. It's not just a positive sentiment about yourself and your walking ability, but rather a network of neurological pathways in your brain that substantiate this belief. Even if you were to tell yourself a thousand times, "I can't walk," your subconscious wouldn't even react to it because the established neurological pathways in your brain suggest otherwise.
Envision this - just as you're certain you're male, or female, or human, or that you possess the ability to walk and run, you also inherently believe that you're loved, intelligent, attractive, and powerful. In such a scenario, no external force could shake your self-perception because it isn't superficial, it's neurological.
This is why, during a diet, repeatedly affirming to yourself that "I'm thin, I'm healthy" may not always be beneficial. Beyond potentially leading to frustration, it could occasionally prove harmful. Why?
The strongest inclination of the subconscious mind is to create coherence between the neurological pathway and its external manifestation in reality
Consequently, the brain might resist your assertions and work to maintain your current weight or even increase it. In essence, you've incited a sort of conflict between your subconscious belief and reality.
Creating new neurological pathways is an art in itself, one that should be undertaken with a full understanding of the principles of the subconscious, such as the one mentioned above. Subconscious beliefs are, indeed, the mightiest forces within our minds. When harnessed effectively, they can completely transform our lives.
